REPLAY: New EO bans "collective bargaining" for federal workers

On Thursday, March 27, the White House released an Executive Order that said it was ending collective bargaining with federal workers citing the national security loophole of the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978. The EO called the unions representing these workers “hostile”, a retaliation for their successful litigation against the administration on behalf of their members.

The two main unions - American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) - represent nearly 1 million federal workers and have been around since pro-labor 1930s New Deal era. How can federal workers who have operated under collective bargaining agreements for decades suddenly be deemed exempt from those protections due to national security?

We look at why this administration is taking this step now, their contingency plans should this fail in court (which it likely will), and what perils this can signal for union members who work in the private sector on today’s Disrupting Money Culture!
